Do French Fries Really Come From France
According to local Belgian lore, poor villagers living in Meuse Valley often ate small fried fish they caught in the river.
But when the winter months come, the river would freeze over, it makes fishing become impossible. Because of this reason, the villagers need to find other food resources. Finally, they found a plant, which we call potato today. They sliced it and fried it in the same way as they do for the fish. So the earliest French fries were born.
During World War I, American soldiers stationed in Belgium were first introduced to French fries. Because the official language of the Belgian army was French, American soldiers give this delicious fried potatoes a nickname----” French Fries”. Now French fries become one of the most famous and popular side dishes in the world. And different countries have different styles of French Fried. People in Belgium prefer to eat with cooed mussels or a fried egg on the top. In the Middle East, it is wrapped in the pita bread with chicken. French are love to serve it with grilled steak. As we all know, “fish and chips” is a famous dish in the United Kingdom. What’s more, French Fried can be cooked in many ways now, baking, deep fry, air fry, etc.
